Last week was my birthday (if the Doctor Zoidberg image didn’t make it obvious enough), and it was pretty much non-celebratory.

I don’t have good birthdays - it’s just always worked out that way since it’s situated at an awkward time during the year, especially on a school schedule. This year I had to present a very important site plan project early in the morning, which set the entire mood of the day for me.

The weather was dreadful - pouring rain and so windy I thought I was going to lose my hat - despite having been warm and Summer-like for a good few days. It was a weekday and a day I had class so I couldn’t even go to Las Vegas to drink myself to death on a whim. California sucks and is so stupidly large that I don’t see friends very often, almost everybody is at least 45 minutes away. Most of the friends I would want to celebrate with are 6-8 hours away, or in a couple cases 9-10 hours of a timezone difference away. People like to tell me they’re going to do something but never actually follow through and do it. Wishing I’d be treated the way I treat others, so I don’t start to question my self-worth.

My birthday last year was awful, so I have a pretty good standard for “Worst birthday ever.” This year’s wasn’t so bad that I was so upset I got a migraine at the end of the night, but it still wasn’t really good at all. I set really easy standards for myself: Curry, something sweet, don’t let someone else dictate what I’m doing. I fulfilled all of them, but by the end of the day I was still pretty sad.

The best thing about this past bad birthday, however, is that Muracci’s is the best damn curry in the state, if not country.

Oh, and that Super Street Fighter IV came out.

Better luck next year, me.
