After…
…I finally managed to upgrade my recently acquired Hackintosh to 10.6.3!
My Macbook Pro is a beast of a machine and, despite being “portable,” is way too heavy for its own good. I’ve been needing references for class so I’ve been bringing it with me for the past few weeks, much to my shoulder’s dismay.
Not only am I not fond of being an early adopter, but the price of the iPad (3G) is too high for me to even consider it an option at the moment. Macbooks are only slightly lighter than their older Pro brothers, and I would never waste so much money on a Macbook Air.
Enter Hackintosh. I just can’t go back to Windows, no matter what they do with it — I’m too spoilt by Macs at this point. When I was over at my friend’s a week ago, she showed me her brother’s HP Mini with OS X installed onto it. After playing with it, I was amazed at how much everything worked like normal. Throughout the night and over the course of the next couple days, I researched what was the easiest to install OS X onto, as well as the most compatible. It ended up being this S10 Lenovo, which also happens to be prettier than the Dell and HP counterparts.
Now I’ve got it running the newest version of Snow Leopard. It came with Leopard but the previous owner had a nonsensical install, so I wiped it completely and started anew. I’m not going to bother with iLife as I don’t anticipate ever needing any of those programs.
This is my new travel partner. It has a built-in card reader so I won’t have to bring my USB card reader around with me anymore. It also has an Express/34 slot, which I’ll probably dedicate to a 3G card for international travel. It’s incredibly small, as you can see in the photo, so I can be fantastically nerdy and hold it with one hand and type with the other. My Macbook Pro will officially be a desktop from now on.
All that being said, I’m selling off all the various things I bought to help me bring the old beast around with me. Since I’ve had it since 2006, it’s a lot of crap.
It might just be me in Spring cleaning mode. It could also just be me hating my past self. Either way, I’m trying to get rid of as much stuff as possible so I can eventually live a more nomadic life. Just a few more days of my break left, but lots more to go through.
